A new world!
Sunday, 09 de February de 2014
When I thought I had seen everything in the world of triathlon, I discovered a new world: the off road triathlon. Since a few months I'm training with my mountain bike, but finally last week I had the chance to go to a place to do some hiking and my first real training for XTERRA. I honestly felt great, not for the speed i was going or my ability on the bike, but by the contact with nature, the peace to ride in the woods, among the animals, the green ... I loved it!
I left at 7:30 am with a friend, Kent, which led me to some tracks that are about 40 minutes drive from town. We arrived, took the bikes from the car and the first thing he told me was to be careful not to get hit by a kangaroo. That would be the most dangerous from the track. At the 1st km we were already riding among the animals that are super shy and fleeing fast but you can get very close. Amazing! The only time I had seen a kangaroo was in the zoo! haha, so imagine how I was seeing similar " animal " in the wild just watching the passing bike there.
A new world for me! Never got excited in mountain biking because I was afraid of hurting myself, had heard some stories from other Ironman athletes who ventured into mountain biking with a not very happy ending and that undertook their all season. But now I am more "relax" and I want to enjoy other things, try other competitions and as here has many possibilities, I decided to do my first XTERRA, March 30, XTERRA Great Ocean Road.
I feel I'm competing a triathlon for the first time, honestly I don't know what to expect. I think it will be fun as well as competitive, but I feel renewed after so many years dedicated to the Ironman. The workouts are shorter , I feel less tired, have more time in the day to do other things and the best, I'm meeting new people that are totally different from the "on road" world, and also impressive places that I had never known if not with a mountain bike!
Never give up !
